Top Tips for Transporting Rabbits

Travelling with my pet

1 minutes read

Most rabbits find travelling very stressful and this can deter owners from taking them to the vets. It is important owners feel comfortable taking their rabbit out and about, so they are brought to practice when necessary.

There are some basic steps that can be taken to make travelling with a rabbit a better experience for both the pet and owner:

  1. A spacious carrier: Most rabbit carriers are very small without much light access – a puppy or cat carrier with an easy entrance from above will give the rabbit more room and allow a less stressful entry into the carrier
  2. Familiarity: Allow the rabbit to become accustomed to the carrier at home before travelling
  3. Keep the car cool: Rabbits overheat easily and this can cause stress
  4. Drive smoothly: Sudden breaking or bumps can alarm a rabbit
  5. Provide toys and/or food: In the carrier to keep the rabbit occupied during the journey
